As part of a networking datacom switch, a switch port chip was developed with a large number of high-speed communication links.
Later, a complete redesign was made integrating the external processor into a full System on Chip. Due to extensive reuse of the previous design, very little new logic was added in the redesign, the main engineering effort was related to verification. The updated version merged other parts of the system including the external processor into a large integrated System on Chip.
The final chip includes a processor with integrated cache controller and MMU, multiple high-speed MB/s LVDS communication ports, a large embedded DRAM and miscellanous CPU-related logic.
BitSim was responsible for the Switch port ASIC project lead, the design of some blocks, block verification, and top level functional verification. Tools used included Visual HDL (Summit), Modelsim (Mentor Graphics), Design Compiler (Synopsys) and Asic Verification Manager (ISS Group).
